321　guard，safeguard和defend

① guard指“用極度的小心和戒備實(shí)際的或潛在的危險(xiǎn)”。

These special branch men were appointed to guard the Prime Minister. 委派這些特種警衛(wèi)人員來保護(hù)總理。

② safeguard是指“保全使之完好無損”，“對(duì)長遠(yuǎn)的可能發(fā)生的事情深謀遠(yuǎn)慮”。

Saving money regularly will help to safeguard one's old age from want. 不斷按時(shí)儲(chǔ)蓄將會(huì)使晚年免于匱乏。

③ defend強(qiáng)調(diào)目前所面臨的危險(xiǎn)，指“用武力或其他對(duì)策進(jìn)行保護(hù)、辯護(hù)”。

It is the duty of every citizen to defend his country when it is attacked by the enemy. 國家受到敵人攻擊時(shí)，保衛(wèi)國家是每一個(gè)公民的職責(zé)。
